On 17th September 2015, our very own Scott Kent embarked on his challenge to complete a 10-day trek of the Great Wall of China. As we speak, Scott will be making his way across the wall. This incredible feat will be in aid of Parkinson’s UK.
Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological condition, which has no cure. The disease is caused by the deterioration of the nerve cells in the brain, reducing the release of the chemical dopamine. The loss of this chemical makes it difficult to move and will create tremors, stiffness and slow movement.
As well as the difficulty in movement, other symptoms include anxiety, depression, tiredness and impacts the ability to complete day-to-day tasks. The rate of which this disease progresses changes from each person and we still don't quite know why people get this condition.
Scott has seen his mother struggle each day in a body that is starting to deteriorate and has been a very difficult time for him and his family. He has been extremely grateful for the help and support that Parkinson's UK has provided, and decided to fundraise in order to help this charity continue its support and fund research to find a cure.
Scott will be taking on the Great Wall with his partner, Aveline Rust. As a couple, they are paying all the costs of this trip, so 100% of the donations will go to Parkinson's UK.
There isn't much awareness surrounding the condition, yet, 1 person for every 500 has it, that's around 127,000 people in UK alone. Scott’s main goal is not only to raise money, but also to make more people aware.
Any donation, big or small will go such a long way. Be apart of finding a cure for Parkinson's disease.
