Insulation For Park Homes

As winter draws closer this is an ideal time to be thinking about insulation for your park home. Not only will insulating your home keep you warmer but it will also reduce your energy consumption and help you to save money on your bills. By making it easier to maintain a steady warm interior it also reduces the chances of condensation, damp and cold damage.

Most brand-new park homes are built already with top quality insulation. Older park homes (made before 2016), however, can present bigger difficulties in maintaining a good temperature, the right humidity and low energy bills. For these older homes, additional insulation can be of great benefit.

Be sure to check with your park that you are free to carry out the works that may affect the appearance of your park home. Because some insulation measures require you to change the outward appearance of your park home, you may also need planning permission to carry them out. Check with your local council’s planning department before starting such alterations.

Insulation comes in three main types; wall, roof or under-floor. Here is a quick guide to each of them.

Wall insulation for your park home

This is achieved by adding insulated panels to the outside of your park home walls. A layer of render and decorative finish is then applied. An alternative method is to use timber battens with a layer of insulation over-clad with a new finish.

You should be aware that fitting wall insulation will mean that your window line is altered. This means your windows will have to removed and reinstalled on the new line. This can often present a good opportunity to upgrade your existing windows. Adding double or triple glazing will also contribute to the energy efficiency of your home along with your new insulation.

Roof insulation

This is often done at the same time as upgrading the roof finish. Roof insulation, with appropriate materials which meet current specifications, helps to improve the energy efficiency of your park home. Adding roof insulation can also help to improve your roof ventilation and aid in improving air circulation and thereby preventing condensation in your home.

Floor insulation

Floor insulation is usually installed using foil-clad thermal panels fixed to the underside of your park home. Another method is to spray insulation to the underside of your home. This can work well in terms of thermally insulating your home, but bear in mind that it can often seal pipes and wires inside the foam layer and prevent future access to them.

Use an accredited installer

Installing any of these three types of insulation can be a complicated job and you are probably best to employ a professional insulation company who can guarantee their work. Be sure to take a photographic record of before and after the work to avoid problems in the future. As we say above, always let your park management know of your intentions to make changes to your home. Also talk to your park home insurance provider if you plan to make any major alterations to your park home and to determine if the amount your park home is insured for is correct.

Having used any one or all of these different methods you should look forward to enjoying greater energy efficiency and a more comfortable environment in your park home. In addition, you should be able to manage the temperature more easily and experience less or no condensation problems. This  in turn, means lower maintenance costs.
