Tips To Remain Warm This Winter
These tips are designed to help you stay warm and comfortable in your park home this winter. With potential blackouts and large energy bills upon us, many people are looking at a winter of hot water bottles, electric blankets, throws and extra layers of clothes. We have put together these tips which we hope will help you to keep warm in the colder weather, without necessarily turning up your heating.
- Check that your boiler has been recently serviced. If not, arrange for a service before winter really sets in. Not only will this hopefully prevent you being left in the cold, it should also save you the expense of emergency repairs. You may also want to think about park home emergency cover to give you extra reassurance in case of any home emergencies. These include electrical circuit failure, boiler breakdown or the need for emergency roof repairs.
- Lag your pipes. If your pipes are exposed it can make a big difference if you get them lagged. It is not a complicated thing to do and there are many easy lagging solutions on the market. It will help prevent pipes bursting as well as reducing the build-up of condensation.
- Make sure your gutters are cleared. Now that the trees have lost most of their leaves, it is a good time to check your gutters are all clear of debris. Clearing them will prevent blockages and should stop water trying to find another route to ground down your walls or in the roof.
- Think about longer, thicker curtains. Most park homes have a high ratio of glass to wall area and so good curtains that hang to the floor and are closed at night can make a big difference.
- Draught excluders against the doors can also make a significant difference when it comes to keeping heat inside your rooms. Even the smallest gap can create a whistling draught and lower the temperature of your home quickly.
- You might also want to think about air circulation. It is tempting to put the sofa or your favourite chair right up to a radiator, but it is much better to leave a gap. This means that air can circulate and the temperature of the whole room can be raised.
- Double check for any gaps around window seals and doors. Make sure heat isn’t escaping from small gaps, covering these and repairing seals can also help reduce condensation.
- Make sure ventilation is good in your park home. Clean the vents now before winter really sets in. This may seem counter intuitive, but it really helps avoid condensation, which can be a major cause of low temperatures inside a park home.
- Try to keep an ambient temperature consistently throughout your home. This will stop warm air suddenly vacating your main living space as soon as a door is opened. It can also help minimise the formation of condensation where there is a temperature differential and warm air meets a cold surface.
- Keep doors closed between rooms. Once you have achieved a consistent ambient temperature, keeping doors closed between rooms as much as possible helps to maintain the warmth in your main living area and saves having to boost heating when you go to sleep to heat up the bedrooms.
We hope that these cold weather tips will help you to remain comfortable in your park home this winter.
