Buying A New Park Home
What are the Choices when Buying a New Park Home?
You’ll have several choices to make when buying a new park home. It’s a big decision and worth taking your time over. Here we consider some of the options.
- Location
Where do you want to live? This is usually the first choice that you’ll make when buying a new park home. Are you looking for a countryside retreat, somewhere close to the coast or in an urban setting? You may want to move closer to family members and a park home may offer you the opportunity to do that. Transport links are also an important consideration.
- Which residential park?
Parks offer a range of amenities, social and community activities, which are suited to different people, so choose one that appeals to you.
Park rules and regulations are also a factor. As many promote a quieter lifestyle for retirement, they may have age restrictions on residents. However, children and younger people are allowed to visit. There may also be rules around keeping pets, which may be important to you too.
Residential park versus holiday park: If you want to live in your park home all year round then you’ll need to ensure that the park allows permanent residency. Some holiday parks close for a period during the winter and require you to have a separate permanent address.
- The size and layout of your new park home
When buying a new park home, you can choose the size and layout according to your needs and budget. For example, choices include: number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Would you like an open plan kitchen/living/dining room or separate rooms? Would you like a utility room, dressing room or study instead of an extra bedroom? The choices you make will depend on whether you decide on a specific model of park home or whether it’s bespoke. Interior décor, exterior finishes, colour-schemes, fittings and features are other choices that you make when buying a new park home.
- Manufacturer
There are some excellent park home manufacturers in the UK. Choose one that has a good reputation, scores highly in independent customer satisfaction ratings and has high build-quality standards. It is important to find out whether they offer a structural warranty. For instance, Platinum Seal, is an insurance-backed warranty that protects you against any manufacturing defects.
In addition, check the reviews to understand the levels of after-sales service that you should expect from the manufacturer.
You can get a good introduction to the types of park homes that are available from different manufacturers by visiting an exhibition that showcases the homes. The World of Park and Leisure Homes takes place annually in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire and is a great place to start.
- Financing
You may be considering different ways to finance your new park home. You may be downsizing and have a property to sell, or applying for financing from the bank or building society. Additionally, the park home manufacturer may offer financing.
Within each of these areas there are plenty of choices to make when buying a new park home. We hope that you enjoy the process and find the home that you want.
