Legal Expenses Cover for Your Park Home

Legal expenses cover for your park home is an excellent way to ensure peace of mind. Park homes are an excellent choice for those looking to downsize or enjoy a community of like-minded people and a peaceful lifestyle.

However, like any home, unexpected issues can arise, and you might find yourself in legal disputes with park home management or other parties. This is where legal expenses cover becomes invaluable, providing you with the necessary support to resolve legal conflicts effectively.

Park Home Assist offers an optional benefit called Legal Expenses Cover for just £14 per annum, which can provide comprehensive legal cover for various scenarios. This policy covers legal costs up to £50,000 for pursuing claims related to defective goods or services provided to your park home, compensation following an accident resulting in death or injury, disputes with the park owner where your home is situated, compensation for damage to your home, and more.

Additionally, the policy includes liaison with credit reference agencies if you fall victim to identity theft and, for this increasingly ‘online world’, writing a letter to social media websites to request the removal of defamatory comments about you.

If you have Legal Expenses cover, it gives you access to a Arc Legal Assistance Helpline in many situations that could arise. If the specifics of your situation are covered, one phone call to Arc can set you on the way to having your problem resolved at no further cost to yourself.

However, it’s important to be aware of some limitations and exclusions within the policy. For instance, claims or proceedings that arise outside of the UK, Isle of Man (IOM), or Channel Islands, and claims below £250 brought against you or pursued for you for defective goods are not covered. Furthermore, claims for stress, psychological, or emotional injury unless linked to a physical injury are excluded for injury claims. Additionally, any Employment Tribunal or action against a park owner initiated within the first 90 days of the policy is not covered.

So, why should you consider including legal expenses cover in your park home insurance?

Disputes with Park Home Management

Conflicts with park home management are unfortunately not uncommon. These disputes can range from disagreements about pitch fees to issues concerning repairs and maintenance. Having legal cover ensures that you have the support and resources needed to help resolve these disputes efficiently.

Accidents and Injuries

Accidents and injuries can happen anywhere, and park homes are no exception. Whether you slip and fall on a wet floor or sustain injuries due to faulty equipment, legal cover can help you pursue compensation for your injuries.

Nuisance or Trespass

Nuisance and trespass issues can take various forms, from noisy neighbours disrupting your peace to unauthorised use of your property. If you find yourself in a situation where someone is causing a nuisance or trespassing on your property, legal cover can assist you in taking the necessary legal action to stop the behaviour and may help restore your peace of mind.

For example, one of our customer’s neighbours had multiple vehicles and kept repeatedly parking one of them outside the customer’s property and blocking access. Although our customer repeatedly attempted to speak to the neighbour to resolve this, it continued to keep happening.

After calling Arc’s Legal Assistance Helpline our customer submitted their claim and were appointed representation by one of Arc’s panel solicitors and despite trying to resolve matters with the neighbour, an agreement could not be made and a court hearing was set.

As a result of this, the neighbour was given a court order not to park near the property where access could not be gained. All legal costs were covered for our customer under their Legal Expenses policy which came to £2,295.

Defective Goods or Services

Defective goods or services can pose significant problems in a park home, from faulty appliances to sub-par repairs. These issues can put both you and your home at risk. Legal cover can help you pursue compensation or take legal action against the responsible party, so that you are not left to deal with the consequences alone.

Identity Theft

Identity theft is a growing concern and can have severe repercussions on your financial and personal life. If you become a victim of identity theft, legal cover can provide the necessary support to address any legal issues that arise, helping you navigate the complexities of resolving identity theft incidents.

Social Media Defamation

In this increasingly online world, we all know how reputations can be made and unmade on social media and how misinformation and untruths can cause real damage to people’s lives. Our legal expenses cover includes paying for the cost of a lawyer to write a letter to a social media website or to an individual to request removal of a defamatory comment about you.

One such example occurred when a customer shared a post on their local community Facebook page where a begrudged ex-colleague started to leave defamatory comments and false accusations about them.

After trying to rectify the problem by speaking with their ex-colleague directly, the problem unfortunately persisted and therefore our customer called Arc Legal’s Assistance Helpline.

Our customer submitted a claim and was appointed one of Arc Legal’s panel solicitors who wrote a letter to the third party asking that they remove all comments and refrain from leaving any further comments otherwise further legal action would be taken. The third party apologised and removed all comments from the post and our customer has not heard from them since.

In summary, having legal expenses cover can provide you with the confidence to enjoy your park home without the worry of potential legal disputes. Park Home Assist’s Park Home Legal Expenses Cover is an optional benefit that offers legal cover for a variety of scenarios and can be a valuable addition to your park home insurance. If you’re considering adding legal expenses cover to your policy, be sure to thoroughly review the policy wording to understand what is and isn’t covered. This will enable you to make an informed decision that meets your specific needs and ensures comprehensive protection for your park home.
